Bozo the Clown makes parts to replace broken parts on a Gottlieb Big Shot
Well, I'm sure everyone who has ever had to work on an old EM game has sooner or later  had to make up a part to replace something that is broken.  Here is a story about what I had to do to get a Big Shot going.

First, there were 2 broken parts on the right drop target bank.  Second, I needed to make a knocker (yeah, I could buy one, but the game is being sold and I figured if I could do it, it would be a good story for the group.

My friend Dave gave me lots of help on this project so I have to give him 1/2 credit and he is Bozo #2 on this project.  We were laughing our heads off on this project.

Although these are pretty good hacks, they are nothing like my favorite one of all time.  That hack is documented here: Dealers Choice Hack

Or my 2nd favorite hack documented here: Toledo Hack

The first problem we had was with the drop target bank. There were two critical parts that were broken.

First was the bar that lifts the targets into place.  It was broken at one of the joints.  This was not too bad.  All I had to do was drill new holes, and use a screws and nuts to hold it together.

Second was the bar that closes a set of contacts when all of the drop targets are down.  This was quite a challenge.  To read the whole story and see some funny pictures documenting the event, click on the picture to the left or click here.

The next problem was that the game had no knocker.  Normally, I would just put an ad on Mr. Pinball and buy one, but in this case, I had to have the game completed in 2 days, so that would not work.  I didn't want to chance taking one from one of my games and then having a hard time finding one, so I figured with all the spare parts I have, maybe I could just make one.  At a minimum I knew it would be a good story for the group.  Best case, maybe I could save a few bucks and pass along some good info to the rest of the pinball community.  To see how I built a replacement knocker from spare parts, click the picture to the left or click here.
